The Ordinary: Breakthrough Tip for the week of 6/5/2017

Deep stories more often emerge from the ordinary in our lives, than from the amazing, the tragic, the unbelievable. Think/feel back over the last week and locate three ordinary moments in your daily life. Brushing your teeth counts. Cleaning the kitty litter box counts. Leaving your phone at home counts (though it can feel akin to Trump leaving the Paris Accord.)

Clear time to choose an ordinary event to write about. You’ll find that details bring vitality into the story, rather than pushing for the extraordinary by dramatizing it. Please send Breakthrough Writing what emerges. You’ll need roughly a half hour to do this work justice.
