Breakthrough Tip 3/31/2014: You’ll never figure it out, no matter what you’ve been told

You’ve got a brilliant idea for a novel, a short story, an essay, a blog post, a poem, a song. It hovers in your mind, sometimes as clear as your own voice, other times as faint as the echo of a whisper. Maybe you know the ending, maybe the middle, maybe the beginning. Maybe there is no structure, just a shimmer of words as fluid and elusive as light on wind-whipped water. You find yourself thinking again and again that if you can only figure out the form of the writing, you’ll be able to write it. A few days go by, a week, a month, a year or more. The writing is trapped in your mind. You are trapped by the belief that you can’t write until you know the beginning, the middle, the resolution.

Break free now. Here is your prompt: I am your words. I see, I send, I hear a way out. Together we’ll escape…

Write for twenty minutes without stopping. As always, I’d love to see what emerges for you.
